A WhatsApp AI agent for a driving school answers students and future students about enrolment, the theory course and test, practice lessons and the practical test. It answers from your school's information and from the procedures the DGT, Spain's traffic authority, publishes, and links the source when the question is about an official procedure. It never promises an exam date or a place on a waiting list. When a question depends on one student's file or on a decision, it collects the details and passes the conversation to your office or the instructor. We build it from your own information and a short session with your team, and test it against a written set of real questions before it goes live.
The questions it answers, and what it does with each
Every school has its own prices, timetables and way of working, so the agent never quotes figures from memory. It answers with what you give it and, for DGT procedures, explains the steps and links the official page (the DGT's pages are in Spanish).
Signing up and choosing the licence
- "What do I need to sign up?"
- "Which documents do I bring?"
- "I want to ride a motorbike. Which licence do I need?"
- "When can I start?"
What the agent does
- Explains how enrolment works and which documents your school asks for, as you have it written down, and can collect the student's details and the documents you ask for. It never asks for the medical report or other health information on WhatsApp.
- Sums up the general requirements the DGT publishes (residence, the medical and psychological fitness report from an authorised centre, the minimum age for each class) and links the page.
- Helps the person see which licence fits what they want to drive: B for a car; AM for a moped; A1 or A2 for a motorbike (A comes later, after two years on A2); C for a lorry, following the DGT's definition of each class.
- Collects the name, the licence and when they want to start, and passes it to the office as an enrolment ready to close.

The theory course and test
- "How does the theory course work?"
- "How do I get booked in for the test?"
- "Where do I see if I passed?"
- "I failed. What now?"
What the agent does
- Explains how your school runs the theory: classes, the practice-test platform and timetables, from your information.
- Explains that the school normally requests the exam from the DGT, describes how you handle it and collects the request for the office.
- Points to where the DGT publishes exam results.
- After a fail, explains what your school does next and links what the DGT publishes about new exam sittings, without inventing fees or deadlines.

Booking, moving and understanding lessons
- "Is there a slot for a lesson this week?"
- "I need to cancel Thursday's lesson."
- "What do we do in a practice lesson?"
What the agent does
- If your students already book and cancel lessons in your management program's app, tells them how to do it there.
- If your booking system allows outside connections, checks availability and books or cancels the lesson. If not, it collects the request and passes it to the office.
- Applies your cancellation policy as written, with no exceptions you have not decided yourself.
- Explains what a practice lesson covers, following your school's programme.
Before and after the test
- "How is my test date decided?"
- "What do I need to bring?"
- "I can't make the test day."
- "I passed. When does my licence arrive?"
What the agent does
- Explains how your school puts students forward for the practical test and how it tells them the date.
- Goes through what to bring on the day, using your school's list.
- If someone cannot attend, explains that the DGT has a procedure to cancel an exam booking, links the page and passes the case to the office.
- After the test, points to where to see the result and where to follow the status of the licence.

"How is my file going?"
- "Where is my file?"
- "When is my next lesson?"
- "Am I missing any paperwork?"
What the agent does
- If your school uses management software we can connect to, it identifies the student by name and DNI/NIE, or with the details your school already uses, and answers with the data in that system.
- If not, it does not guess: it collects who is asking and what they need, and passes it to the office to answer with the file in front of them.
"When is my test?" The 2026 "waiting lists"
In 2026 the wait for the B-licence practical test made the news in several provinces. On 16 June 2026 the DGT published a press note on its Plan de Refuerzo Operativo de Exámenes, a pilot of extra exam sessions that started in May in Lleida, Navarra, Almería and Palma de Mallorca and that, the same note said, would be extended to Tenerife and Barcelona in June. The note sets the number of students the driving schools said were waiting next to the number who sat the extra exams or whom the schools put forward for them:
| Province | Waiting, according to the schools | Sat or put forward |
|---|---|---|
| Barcelona | 63,000 | 1,450 |
| Tenerife | 11,000 | 575 |
| Almería | 8,000 | 630 |
| Balearic Islands | 8,000 | 407 |
| Navarra | over 6,000 | 275 |
| Lleida | 5,000 | 312 |
The two readings do not match. According to the schools' figures, as the note reports them, these were students ready and waiting to sit the test. The DGT calls it the "misnamed waiting list" (mal llamada lista de espera) and says the figures do not reflect students able to sit straight away, but students who have passed the theory test and have two years to take the practical.
Behind this is how test places reach each school. Since 7 December 2023 it has been set out in Spain's driving-licence regulation, the Reglamento General de Conductores (article 51.1 and annex IX): each provincial traffic office shares its practical-test capacity among driving schools according to their students who passed the theory test (or the manoeuvres test, depending on the licence) in the last two years, corrected by each school's pass rate against the exam centre's average, in cycles meant to last between five and fifteen working days. If a school puts forward more students than its share, those beyond it are not called for a test in that cycle. This is the system Revista DGT described in 2021 under the name CAPA. Schools request the tests through AUES, the DGT's system for test applications. Within that share, each school chooses which ready students to put forward, which is why the question reaches your WhatsApp.
When a student asks about their test
- "When is my practical test?"
- "Where am I on the list?"
- "I passed the theory two months ago and still have no date."
- "I can't make the test day."
What the agent does
- Explains that the provincial traffic office sets how many students your school can put forward in each cycle, and how you choose within that share, following the rules you have written down: for example, the instructor signing the student off, or the order you follow.
- Never promises or estimates a date or a place on the list.
- If your management software is connected, answers with what it holds for that student, such as a date already assigned.
- If it is not, collects the name and the question and passes them to the office.
- If the student already has a date and cannot attend, explains the DGT's procedure for cancelling an exam booking, links the official page and passes the case to the office, which can also file it through the DGT's electronic registry.
DGT sources: Anulación de citación a examen · Anulación de convocatoria de examen · Procedures for driving schools
Cancelling an exam booking (anulación de convocatoria) applies to a theory or practical test already booked, only for force majeure and in exceptional cases backed by documents, such as a medical certificate showing the doctor's name and registration number. The candidate or an authorised representative applies, in person at the traffic office with an appointment or online through the electronic registry with an electronic ID card, a digital certificate or Cl@ve. The school can also file it through the DGT's electronic registry, with the supporting document attached. It is free, and the DGT does not guarantee how long it takes. A candidate who does not turn up is marked as failed (no apto), which uses up one of the two attempts the exam fee gives in total, across all the tests (cancellation; requirements).
June to September: more enrolments, and questions at any hour
The driving-school association of León put the rise in enrolments between June and September (leonoticias, 6 July 2025). In Bizkaia, schools speaking to the newspaper Deia on 10 October 2026 said September is one of their busiest months, with new students and others picking their licence back up after the summer. According to those same schools, the wait to start practice lessons runs from three or four weeks for morning slots to three or four months for afternoon slots, and at one school it reaches about six or seven months.
What the agent does when enrolments rise
- Answers at any hour about prices, documents, timetables and how to start, from your school's information.
- Explains how your list to start practice lessons works, as you have it written down, without promising a date.
- Collects the name, the licence, a contact and whether they can do lessons in the morning or the afternoon, and passes it to the office as an enrolment ready to close.
- Passes to the office anything that needs a decision, such as a discount or an unusual case.
Working with your driving-school software
Many schools keep students, lessons and exams in a management program, and several programs already let students book or cancel lessons in an app. The agent does not replace any of that: it answers the questions, sends students to the app when they have one and passes the rest to the office. We connect to the program where the provider allows it, through an API or a data export. Where that is not possible, the agent collects the booking or the change, with the student's name and the slot they want, and passes it to the office to enter in the program.
This is what some of these programs say on their own websites (checked on 15 October 2026, all in Spanish). It is not a list of our integrations: with your program, the first thing we do is check with your account and with the provider what can be connected.
Control-L
Its website lists AUES integration, messages to students by WhatsApp, push notification and email, and an app where students see their instructor's free hours and request practice lessons.
WinAutoGest
Its website describes it as connected to AUES. Its student app, WinAlumnos, shows the practice-lesson calendar and lets students book and cancel lessons.
GestAutoescuela
Its website describes managing students, exams and practice lessons, a multi-computer option, and submitting the documents the DGT requires, on paper or online.
AutoGest
Its Vía Libre plan includes an "API para integraciones" (an API for integrations). It has a student portal and imports students from a CSV or Excel file.
What stays with the office and the instructors
The agent takes the questions that have a written answer. Anything that needs judgement or knowing the person stays with your team, and when a conversation passes to a person it arrives with the details and the history, so nobody has to repeat anything.
The office
- Discounts, exceptions and any problem with a payment.
- Complaints and disagreements, including anything about an exam result.
- Unusual cases: transferring a student's file to or from another school, licences from another country or adaptations.
- The status of a file when the agent has no access to the management software.
The instructors
- Whether a student is ready to sit the test.
- How many more lessons a particular person needs.
- How each student is doing and what they need to work on.
How we build it
We start from your information
Prices, documents, timetables, your cancellation policy and how your courses work, plus the DGT pages your office usually points students to.
A short session with your team
We go through the questions that come in most, how you answer them and where the line sits between what the agent answers and what goes to a person.
We test it before launch
We agree with you, in writing, a set of real questions and the pass mark. It goes live only once it passes.
It runs on your number
It works on your WhatsApp Business number through Meta's official API, and connects to your booking or management system only if that system allows it. It introduces itself as your school's AI assistant, and anyone who asks for a person gets one.
The same kind of questions, already in production at Fixlab.
Fixlab is not a driving school: it is a vehicle certification lab in Spain. But its customers ask what your students ask: which documents do I need, which procedure applies to me, how is my case going. We built its WhatsApp assistant to answer from its knowledge base, open the request in its platform and pass to a person when judgement is needed. It passed the acceptance test we agreed in writing before it went live.
